Great Western Railway is located in southwest SK, and consists of a former CPKC rail line that was slated for abandonment. Established in 2004, we are locally owned by grain producers, ranchers, agricultural business & communities based primarily along our line.

We proudly serve shippers in the Southwest including agriculture and energy. Our primary objective is to facilitate a competitive and alternative way for producers to get their products to market. We also provide an important alternative access to international markets.

Summary of the Role

Great Western Railway Ltd. is seeking a qualified conductor with a proven commitment to Safety and Customer Service to fill a vacancy for casual/part time coverage. Great Western Railway is located in Southwest Saskatchewan and operates over more than 400 miles of track. GWR was established in 2000, and proudly serves shippers in various industries including agriculture and energy. GWR is poised for growth across various industries and seeking team oriented candidates to support our future.

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
  • Compliance with all Safety Rules, Procedures, and Regulations.
  • Oversee safe movement of trains over our 400 mile plus operating network.
  • Switching cars.
  • Making or splitting up trains in yards.
  • Moving cars between yards, sidings or other tracks.
  • Conduct train inspections.
  • Operate switches, coupling cars.
  • Giving and receiving signals.
  • Completing all digital and paperwork reporting.

  • While we strive to prioritize our schedule around weekday / daytime operations, candidates must be available for any and all shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • We provide a tentative shift schedule plan for the following week to allow for your planning and work life balance priorities.
  • This job involves outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • This position will be based in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Great Western Railway offers competitive wage and benefits.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a qualified railway Conductor is required for this position.
