GWRS 2000 and GWRS 2001 are MLW 420 Locomotives rated at 2000HP. Orignally built by Montreal Locomotive Works (Bombardier) for Canadian National Railway around 1974 they were designated CN3522 and CN3514. They were purchased by GW Rail in March of 2001. GWRS 2002 is a MR 251 and is also rated at 2000 HP. GWRS 2003 and GWRS 2004 are also Alco - 2000 HP units and were purchased and put into service in 2008.
GW Rail has seven trucks, four fitted with hi-rail equipment. Three for on-track inspection and maintenance and one 5 ton flatdeck equipped with a hiab crane, one equipment truck, and two crew trucks.
GW Rail also owns a Ballast Regulator, Tie Inserter, Tamper and Snow Fighter for Maintenance of Way. Other equipment includes five ballast cars, one box car used for storage and some hopper cars.
